Beaverun News - 4th of July Event
The first non-points special event race of the 2008 BeaveRun Karting season is set for the weekend of July 4-6th. This event will be a departure from the standard BeaveRun Championship Karting Series format featuring several different races highlighted by Australian Pursuit Races on Saturday and Team Endurance Races on Sunday!
The weekend will run in the BeaveRun Double format, fast becoming a favorite among those racers travelling longer distances to BeaveRun, with Friday July 4th featuring a full day of kart-only open practice on the .82 mile Wilson Circuit.
Saturday July 5th will showcase a brand new event at BeaveRun, an Australian Pursuit Race! The format will feature practice sessions by class followed by Qualifying. The Qualifying results will set the grid for the first Pursuit race with the field lining up single file to take the green flag for the ten lap race. The starting line-up for the second feature will be inverted based on the results of the first race. The combined results of the two races will determine the final standings.
While the goal of each race is obviously to advance positions, an Australian Pursuit race takes the reward for each pass to a higher level as each pass not only moves a driver forward but also eliminates the other driver from that race! The final results are determined by the running order on the track at the end of ten laps with the eliminated karts placing behind the finishing karts in the order that they were eliminated.
The classes taking part in these races include Kid Kart, Cadet, Yamaha Junior Supercan, Yamaha Heavy (Pipe), TAG and Stock Honda Shifter classes. Kid Karts will run three heat races on the full .82 mile course.
Team Endurance Relay Races are the highlight of the race program on Sunday July 6th with three different races including Cadet, Yamaha and TAG/Shifter. In the Team Endurance format each team will be comprised of two drivers. Teams will have each driver utilizing their own machine with the transponder acting as the “baton” between the drivers as they make their driver changes on pit lane. Teams will have the option of sharing a kart as well.
Each group will have a ten minute Practice/Qualifying session immediately before their race that will determine the starting grid for their respective Endurance Race. The Cadets will start the day with a 70 lap / 58 mile race followed by Yamahas which will run a 90 lap / 75 mile race. The Yamaha Junior Supercan and Yamaha Senior Heavy Pipe classes will run together. Closing the day out will be a 120 lap / 100 mile event for the TAG & Shifter karts that is expected to run approximately two hours!
Entry fees for the Australian Pursuit will be the same as a regular BeaveRun race with BeaveRun Supermembers paying half price. For the Endurance Races, entries for a two driver team include three two-day pit passes for drivers or crew. Prices per team are $150 /Cadet, $175 Yamaha and $200 TAG/Shifter. Additional pit passes are $15 for a two day pass and $10 for a single day pass.
